First, consider what you want to use the pool for:

• A water depth of 1.20–1.50 m is sufficient for swimming and exercise.
• For play and relaxation, a depth of 0.90–1.20 m is often sufficient.

The length depends on the available garden space and whether you want to swim laps. A standard size of 8×4 m covers both needs. Smaller gardens benefit from compact 5×3 m pools.

Modern pool systems combine mechanical filtration using sand or cartridge filters with chemical disinfection (e.g., chlorine, saltwater, or UV systems).

• Pre-filtration: Coarse debris such as leaves and sand is trapped in the skimmer.
• Main filter: Fine particles are removed by a sand or cartridge filter.
